simple love

they say love is supposed to be simple

i've watched it in the movies

suddenly when he says hi

you’re hosting a flutter of butterflies

love is supposed to be simple

the princess and prince love story

that we always dreamed about as kids

wearing glass slippers

and crowns too big for our heads

love is supposed to be simple

‘i love you’s’

fall out of our mouths

there isn’t such thing as timing

we say it from our heart

not from the clock

he says “say it only when your ready”

because all you need is time

not pressure

love in that moment isn’t just simple

she’s also safety

she’s also home

love isn’t sitting at the backseat of his car

so that he won’t be mad at you

love isn’t shutting out your friends

because he wanted you for himself

love isn’t waiting in a coffee shop alone

because he overslept your date

because this type of love

is what younger self  never looked up to

this type of love is filled with lost crowns

and broken glass slippers

this type of love cuts scars

deeper than imaginable

this type of love is far from simple.
